Match Report: Auction of Promises – 19th November 2016

An unbelievably well attended Auction of Promises on Saturday 19th November raised over £5,400 for a variety of local causes (including the Cricket Club!) and bar takings were around £600 before full cashing up.

Many thanks to the many members of the parish who turned out in numbers to support this event. And from the cricket club: Andy Blake for hard working in getting promises in, Henry Fry and Greg Dix for moral support on the night, and members of the Gater, Porter, Corbett and Fry families for some early telephone bids to get the tills rolling.

3rd September 2016 – Surridge Wiltshire Division 2 Winners

On Saturday 3rd of September, the weather gods once again did us a big favour, washing out the entire league fixtures for the day and allowing us to sneak (by the thinnest of margins) the Division Two title from Winsley C.C., a proper cricketing outfit if ever there was one.

We are delighted to have one a league that we last won in 2009.

Big congratulations to Skipper Greg Dix – the longest serving Captain in Wiltshire Cricket, having captained Avebury since our league debut in 2002.

Fifteen years of hurt! And still going strong.

13th August: “We Can Win Without Wes!”

Congrats to the Saturday Xi who beat Biddestone today in a high-scoring thriller.  Particular congrats to Andy Schofield for an authoritative 95, and telling contributions from Redmayne, Rheinberg, and Skipper Dix. Match report in the results section of this site.

04 August: “Roll On End of Season!”

Junior coaching has finished, holiday season is upon us, the league season rumbles on (and on, and on), but all is well in the Avebury C.C. camp.

Preparations for further renovation of the square are underway; further improving the facilities in addition to everything else we’ve done over the past 5 years (sightscreens, covers, water supply, batting cages, artificial nets, redecoration of the pavilion, improved grounds equipment for the Winter, and much more besides).

Other than that, it’s 100% focus on Avebury Day for many of us (see note below)!

Here’s a charming picture of the team following their historic win over mighty Winsley last week:

Avebury CC 2016 Season

Many of us are involved in this event – the greatest village fete EVER! Taking place on our ground on Saturday 10th September. Please come along! We’ll run our end of season dinner in the tent in the evening I think! See: for more details.
